Today with the exception of some limited performances in national and independent theaters, there is no integrated movement that comprises all elements of Egyptian performing arts, threatening its impact. While international art movements are thriving, lack of funding and support place Egyptian performing arts under threat of appropriation and extinction.
Tarab will lead the research initiative with partners specialized in the field of heritage, on the history of Egyptian performance arts, its origins and it’s impact on neighboring countries as well as cross-cultural influences with the arab world and Mena region. The goal is to have each unique type of dance or performance documented, preserved and re-presented to new audiences.
